Virginia Hungate-Hawk, Artist

Virginia Hungate-Hawk, is a Seattle-based, artist working in traditional and contemporary printmaking. She received her MFA in Printmaking from the University of Notre Dame and her BA in Studio Art and Geography from Macalester College. Her studio practice includes etching, cut-paper, and stenciling addressing the way in which we view the world around us by referencing the natural world, cartography, and geography. In this most recent body of work Virginia employs scale and movement, layering and repeating marks, which coalesce to become larger configurations. Looking at her work feels either like peering through a microscope at the smallest living forms or searching a vast topography to find your route through.

Virginia’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her prints are held in both private and public collections across the country, including the Southern Graphics Council International Archive. Virginia currently teaches printmaking at Pratt Fine Arts Center and Stadium High School.
